Explore SignatureDubai Municipality has recently concluded a $52 million landscaping initiative, marking a significant milestone in its Green Dubai strategy. The project — part of a broader Dubai landscaping project campaign — has overseen the planting of over 300,000 trees and seedlings, transforming more than 3 million square metres of landscaping areas across major roads and intersections.
Spanning the first half of 2025, this AED 190 million urban greening project included five major beautification schemes covering expanses such as:
Across these key nodes, Dubai Municipality introduced smart, sustainable irrigation systems featuring underground pumps and IoT technology, reducing water waste and ensuring efficient maintenance.
His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, director general of Dubai Municipality, said:
“Our aim is to reinforce Dubai’s distinctive urban and aesthetic identity and solidify its position as a leading sustainable global city. We seek to offer a vibrant and healthy living environment that upholds the highest standards of quality of life for residents and visitors, while maintaining a harmonious balance between the urban, architectural, and environmental landscape.”
One standout feature of this Dubai landscaping project has been the incorporation of IoT-enabled irrigation systems that control underground pump operations in real time, optimising water usage and reducing evaporation loss.
Species selection was intentional and strategic. Native trees such as ghaf, sidr, and neem were complemented by ornamental varieties including washingtonia, royal poinciana, millingtonia, albizia, chorisia, and bougainvillaea, bringing aesthetic diversity as well as ecological resilience.
Beyond flora, the initiative integrated striking design features. At the Al Khail & Latifa bint Hamdan intersection, traditional Arab-inspired vertical lighting installations now change colour to commemorate national events, reinforcing both cultural identity and urban beauty.
This project is one cog in the larger wheel of the Green Dubai strategy and aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which emphasises:
By mid‑2025, the city managed over 5.5 million trees and seedlings, with nearly 9 million sq m of green space, 2 million sq m of seasonal flowers, 6.3 million sq m of ground cover, and 1.3 million m of plant fencing. During 2024, Dubai sustained an average of 600 new trees per day, contributing 216,500 new plantings.
The initiative brings vital benefits such as cooler urban temperatures, cleaner air, richer biodiversity, and more active community spaces.
Dubai’s dedication is paying off. The emirate was recently named the world’s cleanest city, a testament to its environmental stewardship. Visitors and residents alike now traverse streets imbued with greenery, vibrant flowers, and ambient lighting, reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a world-class lifestyle destination.
Dubai’s large-scale landscaping projects significantly enhance the appeal of surrounding areas, boosting property values and attracting both buyers and tenants seeking greener, healthier environments. With improved infrastructure and visual aesthetics, real estate in these zones becomes more desirable, offering strong appreciation and rental potential. The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan is a strategic framework guiding sustainable development, focusing on green corridors, enhanced mobility, community wellbeing, and urban quality, under which this landscaping initiative falls.
More than 300,000 trees and seedlings were planted across 3 million sq m landscaping zones, supported by smart irrigation systems.
It delivers on the Green Dubai strategy by adding greenery across major urban areas, improving environmental resilience, and supporting the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan goals.
This initiative refurbished five major road intersections and corridors, installing smart irrigation, sustainable plant species, and aesthetic enhancements such as ornamental lighting.
The project elevates neighbourhood appeal, boosts property values, and attracts tenants, offering solid returns for informed investors.
A mix of native species (ghaf, sidr, neem) and ornamentals (washingtonia, royal poinciana, albizia, chorisia, bougainvillaea) was chosen to balance aesthetics and ecosystem resilience.
